Our Commitment
Every purchase, every retreat, every dieta directly supports indigenous communities across the Amazon Rainforest. Our goal is to build lasting partnerships with Amazonian peoples — on their terms, in service of their autonomy.
How It Works
Paje is not a charity. It is a model of direct partnership — where the communities we work with are co-creators, not beneficiaries. A fair share of every transaction goes directly to the project agreed upon with that community.
Brazil is home to over 2,000 indigenous peoples. We are at the very beginning of what this can become. Each partnership is built patiently, respectfully, and on the community's own timeline.
Current Projects · Ushunawa Village · Yawanawa Territory · Acre, Brazil
Our first active partnership is with the Yawanawa community of Ushunawa. Two concrete projects are currently underway, designed together with the community's leaders and their Paje.
Education · Cultural Transmission
More than a conventional school, this project creates a living space for cultural transmission — where children learn alongside elders, where the Yawanawa language is spoken, where songs, stories and ancestral knowledge are passed on from generation to generation.
Teaching of the Yawanawa language (Noke Tsai) alongside Portuguese
Space for traditional songs, music and cultural practices
Community library — books, educational materials, cultural records
Intergenerational exchange between children and elders
Natural materials, solar energy, low environmental impact
Already underway
When we arrived in Ushunawa, we saw the reality clearly: the children had almost nothing to study with. No notebooks, no pencils, no tables, no chairs — they write on the ground.
So we are starting where it matters most. Paje is sending a specialist in eco-timber construction and civil engineering from Yuxibu Bambu directly to the village. Their role is threefold: build proper tables and chairs with the community, teach the Yawanawa how to build them on their own afterwards, and fund the materials needed to do it.
During this same visit, the specialist will assess the ground, the available raw materials and what is concretely possible for the construction of the school itself — turning the vision into a real, costed plan.
Paje's first commitmentR$ 7,000
Covering the school supplies and the specialist's travel — our very first expense for Ushunawa.
Plant Medicine · Cultural Preservation
Designed with Paje Vea — guardian of traditional plant knowledge at Ushunawa — this laboratory is not an industrial space. It is a living workshop of forest medicine, where ancestral knowledge meets simple tools for conservation and transformation of medicinal plants.
Drying, storage and conservation of medicinal plants
Production of oils, tinctures, balms, hydrolats and artisanal preparations
Artisanal distillation — essential oils and aromatic waters
Transmission of knowledge from Paje Vea to younger generations
Future development of sustainable community-based products from the forest
